Paul Walker’s Custom 2005 Softail Heads to Auction
Best known for driving souped-up imports on the big screen, Paul Walker also loved Harleys.
The late actor Paul Walker didn’t just play a car enthusiast on the big screen. In real life, he maintained a large collection of cars, and he even had some cool bikes as well.
One of his Harley-Davidsons is heading to auction at Barrett-Jackson’s famous Scottsdale sale, which runs from January 11 through 19, 2020. From the gator skin seat to the springer front end, we love every inch of this bike. The man certainly had taste.
Road Dog Customs built this bike for the actor, starting with a 2005 FLSTCI as a base. From nose to tail, this bike is covered in classic, early postwar touches. However, it’s a modern, fuel-injected bike that be be ridden and enjoyed every single day if the new owner so chooses.
All of the chrome on the bike has been replaced with nickel plating. The new finish complements the matte paintjob, which features intricate pinstriping. The overall look of the bike reminds us of the understated classics of the late 1940s and early 1950s.
The handlebars, instrument cluster, floorboards, and exhaust pipes are all custom pieces, according to the auction listing. In addition, Road Dog Customs also shaved down the oil tank and fabricated an open belt system.
Most of the bike’s frame components are powdercoated, including the wheels. Meanwhile, foot controls were sourced from Performance Machine.
Our favorite feature of this bike is the gator skin seat. The deep brown seating surface is paired with black leather, with matching brown contrast stitching. It’s a great look and the true centerpiece of this custom motorcycle. The brown leather, combined with the olive green paint, is evocative of the modified military surplus WLAs that birthed custom motorcycle culture after WWII.
It’s clear that a lot of care — and a lot of cash — went into this custom build. Still, it’s a subtle, understated custom that we’d be proud to have in our garage. Despite spending most of his screen time behind the wheel of brightly-colored, modified import cars, it’s clear that Paul Walker had great taste when it came to his personal vehicles.
