Paint It Black: Custom HD Breakout Is a 'Raked-Out Cruiser'

Paint it Black: Custom Breakout is a  “Raked-Out Cruiser” without the Chrome Treatment Custom by Bundnerbike takes the Harley Davidson Breakout and paints it black.

Here’s a cool custom for all you riders who like Harley Davidson’s newest, raked-out Breakout, but who don’t necessarily like to be overwhelmed with chrome.

This Swiss custom, called the GTO,  has that mean, low look of HD’s “raked-out cruiser,” a modern chopper in effect, only it looks leaner and meaner, due mostly its dripping in bad-man black and bruising blue.

The Motor Company describes its new Breakout, which they brought back in 2023 due to popular demand, as a “raked out cruiser dripping in chrome.”

Essence of the Modern Chopper

The Motor Company sticks chrome everywhere on its 2023 stock Breakout, including the exhaust, air cleaner, side covers, engine elements, wheels, forks, tanks and anywhere else they can think of.

It is a gorgeous motorcycle as is, the very essence of the modern version of the old-school chopper, and it has proven to be popular in Europe, Australia and here in the USA.

The first thing this custom shop, Bundnerbike, in Switzerland, did was replace all that chrome with several coatings of black and a deep, and unusual shade of blue and green on the fenders and tank, which is made of 3D sheet metal. Whatever the color is called, it works.

Embedded Fender Lights

They did much more than just slap this black and blue paint on the bike, however.

They also stuck embedded lights in the fender, for a real custom look and added a lower profile seat that swoops up and over the raised rear fender when sporting a sissy bar and passenger backrest.

All in all, it’s a striking design, and Bunderbike was smart enough to leave the essence of the 2023 Breakout – its powerplant – alone. The Breakout in its stock configuration is powered by a Milwaukee Eight 117 engine that churns out 101 horsepower and 123 ft-lbs of torque.

Whopping 300 mm Rear Tire

They did, however, improve the way the bike breathes, adding a Kess Tech exhaust. Kess Tech is a German manufacturer whose adjustable pipes are getting good reviews here in the US, in terms of both making power and sound.

The suspension system is also adjustable, and the rear wheel is humongous of course. What would a Breakout be without an outrageously big rear tire? This one is 300 mm with an 18-inch wheel.

Little GTO, You’re Really Looking Fine

Now, those of you of a certain age may be wondering: “What about this GTO moniker? What’s it got to do with my old Pontiac GTO with its four-barrel carburetor and three-speed Hurst shifter?”

Sorry to say, this GTO has nothing to do with the old muscle car that was built by Pontiac from 1963 to 1974, and canonized in the old Beach Boys song. In this case, GTO refers to a series of models from the Bundnerbike workshop.

The MSRP for the stock 2023 Breakout starts at $21,000 and goes up from there, depending on color. So if you’re interested in this custom, you might want to contact Bunderbike, because the company doesn’t release prices.

Still, I think it’s safe to say you’d be spending a little more than $21,000.
