Jared Mees Scores X-Games Harley-Davidson Flat Track Gold
Monster Energy team rider wraps up his 2018 Harley-Davidson Flat Track season in typically dominant fashion.
For the first time ever, Harley-Davidson Flat Track racing came inside to the comfy confines of U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It took a construction crew all night to transform the location of the 2018 X-Games Minneapolis from a motocross freestyle course into a 1/8th mile flat track. But it didn’t take long for Monster Energy rider Jared “Jammer” Mees to claim victory at the historic event. The 32-year old Minnesota native beat out a field of 24 racers to secure his second career win.
That victory didn’t come easily, however, as all riders struggled with the track’s tight turns and slick surface. Mees used his extensive experience as a short track racer to cruise through both the quarter and semi-finals and secure a spot in the final eight. Despite that, Mees found himself trailing Jeffery Carver Jr. right out of the gate.
It was the fifth lap before Mees found his opportunity to overtake Carver Jr., and he never looked back. By the 17th lap, Mees had jumped out to an impressive 3-second lead. He finished the 20 lap race in a mere 4:00.747, bringing home his second Flat Track gold medal in the process.
“This kind of indoor short track is what I grew up on,” Mees said following the race. “My bike was running flawless, I felt really good, and it is awesome to get a gold medal today. This is such a unique race and it is a great honor to keep getting invited back.”
Mees also won a silver medal at last year’s X-Games Minneapolis. He dominated the American Flat Track Series in 2018, winning 9 out of 11 races. All of which should come as no surprise from a guy who began racing at the age of 6. Mees is also married to pro Flat Track racer Nicole Mees, making this a true familly affair!
