‘HD Forums’ Member of the Month Has Been Riding for a Half Century
The latest HD Forums Member of the Month quite literally has riding in his blood and has done plenty of it over the last few decades.
It never ceases to amaze us just how long most HD Forums members have been riding. Sure, there are quite a few that are new/newer to the world of Harley-Davidson, but there are also our more hardcore members that rack up crazy mileage and have been doing so for decades. One of those members – edilgdaor (Road Glide backward), or Dave, as he’s known in real life – is part of that club, with 51 years of riding under his belt so far. And that’s just one of the many reasons why he’s our HD Forums Member of the Month for October.
Married with one child and five grandchildren, Dave spent a good chunk of his life working as an electronics technician. He began riding when he was 16 after falling in love with bicycles at the age of three. But Dave originally learned to ride on a Honda Trail 90 somewhere in between, and he grew up admiring his friend’s parent’s Harley bagger and Sportster.
Over the years, Dave has owned eight bikes himself – a 2020 Road Glide LTD, a 2011 Road Glide, a 2006 Road Glide, a Yamaha RD200, Yamaha RD350, BSA 441 Victor, BSA 650 Lightning, and a 2011 Ducati xDiavel. The Scorched Red 2020 Road Glide is his personal favorite, however, a bike he purchased to replace his 2011 model.
Riding is quite literally in Dave’s blood, as he likes to say. In fact, his grandfather owned a bike with a sidecar that he used as a “family car,” toting his four kids around town using the two-wheeler, and his dad and mom were avid riders, too (as we can see from the photo below). Today, Dave’s sisters and wife also ride, and he’s personally racked up a quarter-million miles of his own over the last five-plus decades. Heck, he’s even road-raced motorcycles in the past, winning a few trophies in the process.
Of course, riding all these years – both on the street and on the track – has led to a few injuries, but that has never dissuaded Dave from doing what he loves to do. He continues to take long trips – his favorite destination is Yosemite – and when he’s not riding, he spends “an inordinate amount of time” perusing the HD Forums. And if all of that doesn’t make him a deserving Member of the Month, well, we don’t know what will!
