Harley-Davidson Temporarily Stops LiveWire Production Due to Charging Issue
Company has ceased production until they are able to run further tests and correct the issue.
Harley-Davidson has temporarily stopped production and delivery of their all-new, all-electric LiveWire motorcycle due to a potential issue with the bike’s charging. The glitch was discovered during final testing.
The company clarified that it is not a serious problem, and will not affect those LiveWires already on the road.
“We recently discovered a non-standard condition during a final quality check; stopped production and deliveries; and began additional testing and analysis, which is progressing well,” Harley-Davidson said in a statement.
In a memo obtained by The Wall Street Journal, it appears that the charging systems are the source of the problem. It is a bad news that comes at the worst possible time, following the much-hyped debut and arrival at H-D dealers earlier this month.
‘Obviously this is a setback, but I don’t think this is a deal-breaker by any means.’
“Obviously this is a setback, but I don’t think this is a deal-breaker by any means,” financial analyst and Harley expert Brian Yarbrough told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. “This bike alone was not the end all, be all.” Yarbrough says.
True, but the optics aren’t great for Harley, either. That being said, when it comes to the future of motorcycles and the automotive industry in general, electric will be a part of the picture in a substantial way. And certainly we can expect a few bumps along the road of the brave new world. A sentiment that Harley seems to echo.
Harley has not given any additional information on the issue, and when they will restart LiveWire production.
