Harley-Davidson Nitro Riders – Do You Have the Balls?

There’s a saying I often say that manages to piss lots of sports fans off. The saying goes; “Basketball, baseball, and football require only one ball to be played. On the other hand, racing requires two big balls.”

Take it for what it’s worth, but strapping yourself to a car or motorcycle at over 200 mph with a tank full of nitro fuel in between your legs takes a lot more than courage. For some, it takes lunacy to ignore the possible scenarios and simply go for it.

Take this story for example, professional rider, Rickey House was racing his Nitro Harley on a drag strip in Arizona in 2010, when his motorcycle flipped at over 200 mph. As you can imagine, House flew off his motorcycle and both him and his machine and tumbled down the track in dramatic fashion. The crazy part? House spent the night in the hospital, only to come back the next day and race two more rounds on a damaged bike. That’s either dedication, or stupidity, but regardless of your opinion, it took balls to do that.

While rattling off the outrageous acceleration and top speeds these machines and riders are capable of, one must remember that these aren’t exactly dirt bikes. These high-tech racing motorcycles can weight over 1,000 pounds, and can pump out as much as 2,000 freaking horsepower in a matter of seconds. In fact, a month ago at the Castrol Raceway at Edmonton, Alberta in Canada, another rider, Tracy Kile, put in a completely-insane 246.98 mph run!

Regardless of the discipline, I admire racers for many virtues. The discipline, the attention to detail, and the bravery, and nowadays, the insane physical condition they have to be in. Say what you want about football and basketball players, but there is no way they’ve got what it takes.
