Harley-Davidson XR750 Is Rolling Racing History

Harley-Davidson XR750

As iconic as the XR750 is, this particular bike is even more so considering it was ridden by none other than AMA legend Chris Carr.

The Harley-Davidson XR750, in and of itself, is a remarkable piece of racing history. Racking up wins on tracks made of dirt, paved surfaces, and even snow — over the course of decades, we might add. But arguably no Harley-Davidson XR750 is as famous or iconic as the one you see before you, because this one was ridden by none other than Chris Carr, the winningest racer in AMA history.

Carr, like his bike, was a formidable all-round talent. Competing in flat track, TT, road racing, and land-speed racing, he simply dominated the competition for well over two decades. And it didn’t take long for Carr to establish himself as such, winning the AMA Flat Track Rookie of the Year right off  the bat in 1985. Carr would go on to be a perennial top-5 finisher in the points race every year until signing on with Harley in 1990.

The combination of Carr’s talent and the winningest bike in AMA history proved to be quite the match. Two years of second place finished were followed by Carr’s first AMA title win in 1992. After a two year absence for a foray in road racing, he returned and once again captured second place in the flat-track Championship series. In the years since, he’s captured a Formula USA dirt-track title and five consecutive AMA championships.

Carr’s trusty Harley-Davidson XR750, now retired, popped up in Mecum’s 2018 Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction listings. As star studded as this annual sale always proves, it’s hard to imagine anything more historically significant. If you’re a fan of flat track or just Harley-Davidson history in general, no singular man or motorcycle compares. And just the sight of this iconic ride is enough to bring back decades of history in the making!
