Harley Davidson Tire Review — The Tires Breakdown

tire.jpgTires available for your Harley-Davidson motorcycle include two of
the best-performing brands in the business: Michelin and Dunlop. The
factory has also developed wide and performance tires to provide you,
the Harley enthusiast, with a number of unique, signature tires to make
your ride stand out and help your machine perform at its best.  Let’s
look at some of these tires and check out their exciting features.

Michelin

Michelin boasts that it is a leader in racing technology, testing and
developing tires in demanding track conditions, and then transferring
this technology to tires made for Harley-Davidson. For example, the
Macadam tires, according to Michelin, offer Harley riders uniform wear
coupled with excellent handing characteristics. These tires fit numerous
FXSTD and Dyna models.

The Commander series, so says Michelin, offers “easy-steering
profile, ultra-comfortable highway ride and distinctive style.” These
tires fit numerous FL, FX, Dyna and Sportster models along with some
sidecars.

Michelin “Scorcher” tires are the first co-branded
Michelin-Harley-Davidson tire. According to the two companies, Scorcher
tires have great durability, handling and comfort. Scorcher 31 tires are
standard equipment on many 2010 Dyna vehicles, and can be mounted on a
number of other models as a replacement tire.

Dunlop

Dunlop, a famous tire brand, has been supplying the Harley factory
with original equipment tires since 1984. Most of these tires come in
either blackwall or whitewall versions. Dunlop supplies tires for
Sportsters, Dyna, Softail, VRSC and Touring Harley-Davidson models.

Performance and Wide Tires

Harley-Davidson’s “Screamin’ Eagle product line offers performance
tires, too. According to the H.D. factory website, the tires “feature an
optimized profile, contact patch and compound for superior grip in dry
conditions, with solid grip during wet weather riding conditions.” The
tire is has an attractively-aggressive look and features the Screamin’
Eagle logo on the sidewall.

Another great add-on for your Dyna model Harley-Davidson is the wide
tire. This 180mm rear tire fills out the rear fender area, adding a
hefty, macho look to your ride. A kit is available, which includes a
Dunlop Screamin’ Eagle wide tire, brackets, and other installation
hardware. No powertrain or frame adjustments are required.

A number of other quality tire manufacturers build tires for your
Harley. These include Bridgestone, Pirelli, and Metzeler.

Tire-Related Accessories

Tire accessories include inner tubes, tire pressure gauges, and depth
gauges.

It’s probably smart to carry a spare inner tube, just in case one of
your tires goes flat on a trip.

Making sure your tires are inflated properly not only improves gas
mileage; it makes for a safer, more comfortable ride. Tire pressure
gauges are available in mechanical or digital models; some also include
an attractive carrying case.

Checking the wear on your tires with a tread depth gauge is also a
good idea. Then you know for sure your tires are safe and performing at
their best.

A good place to begin looking for tires is the official
Harley-Davidson website at www.harley-davidson.com
Go to the Parts & Apparel tab, scroll to Genuine Motor Accessories,
pick a model, go to Wheels & Sprockets and finally click on Tires.

If you type “motorcycle tires” into your search engine, you will come
up with numerous manufacturers and dealers of Harley-Davidson
motorcycle tires. Some of them are local, so you can go to the shop in
person and inspect the quality of the tire you plan to buy. And although
other sellers of Harley-Davidson motorcycle tires may not be nearby,
they may offer lower prices and/or free shipping.

Whether local or national, you have many choices when shopping for
and purchasing tires and accessories for your Harley-Davidson.
