Harley-Davidson Forced to Layoff More Factory Workers

If you drive by your local mall on any given weekend, you may not imagine the United State’s economy is suffering, but the truth is that labor, raw-materials, and the cost of doing business in general is higher than it’s ever been.

Like many other industry giants, Harley-Davidson is forced to adjust their labor, production and overall expenses according to their projected sales, which aren’t looking to good. Early this morning the Wisconsin-based company announced to USA Today, that it will layoff up to 200 employees from various ends of the business.

Harley-Davidson currently has a workforce of about 6,300 factory and corporate workers, and expects to make cuts at their Menomonee Falls, Wis. engine plant, and at least 35 more at its Tomahawk, Wis. windshield and plastic-parts plant. Whether these layoffs come as a direct result of Harley’s recent 12-million dollar government fine for violating emission laws, the official spokesperson did not comment.

According to Wall Street experts, Harley’s stock has suffered greatly in part to the ever-growing presence of manufacturers like Honda and Kawasaki eating into their market share. With the millennial-buyer segment growing rapidly, Harley has struggled to adjust as fast as the competition. That’s not to mention the ongoing investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for riders experiencing “sudden brake system failure.”

It seems that Harley’s tough-times are far from over…
