Harley-Davidson Giveaway Raises Big Money for Honor Flight
The Harley-Davidson community is a big supporter of this important cause that honors our nation’s heroes. Here’s how you can help!
The Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization that serves one mission – honoring our veterans for their service and sacrifice. With money raised from grateful donors, they transport these heroes to Washington, D.C. to allow them the chance to see and reflect on their national memorials. This is an opportunity that many veterans, especially seniors from World War II and Korea, may not otherwise receive. And as you might imagine, the Harley-Davidson community are big supporters of Honor Flights across the country.
That includes the good folks over at Bald Eagle Harley-Davidson in Marquette, Michigan. Nestled in the wintry confines of the Upper Peninsula, as Michiganders call it, there isn’t much riding going on this time of year. But that didn’t stop nearby residents from buying up hundreds of raffle tickets for a great cause. All-in-all, Bald Eagle raised over $24,000 for the U.P. Honor Flight hub, and one lucky person went home with a 2018 Harley-Davidson Road King.
Interestingly enough, the winner of the bike, Holly Degrave, doesn’t even ride. But now that she’s got a sweet new Road King, she intends to start. Her winning ticket was drawn by WWII veteran John D’Antonio, who participated in the charter’s inaugural honor flight. The organization also used the venue to reach out to anyone who knows veterans who haven’t had the chance to participate in an effort to include them on the next trip, which takes place on May 23.
Sadly, according to the Honor Flight Network, 430 World War II vets die each day. The time to honor those who bravely fought in a war that threatened this nation’s very existence is quickly slipping away. So if you know someone who hasn’t yet experienced this amazing opportunity, find your local charter here!
