Harley-Davidson Dynas Battle Sportbikes on the Track

When a group of Harley-Davidson V-Twins invade a local track day, the results are both hilarious and eye opening.

When you think of Harley-Davidson, you think of cruising the highway. Showing off. Being a badass. But what you don’t think of, at least not immediately, is track racing. Even though Harley has a rich racing history stretching back decades. So, it should come as no surprise that when Hot Bike magazine brought a bunch of V-Twins to a recent sportbike trackday event, it raised more than a few eyebrows.

Dubbed, appropriately, V-Twin Trackday, the event took place at Buttonwillow Raceway in Bakersfield, California. Roughly a dozen Harley-Davidson Dynas rolled in for the event, including one ridden by none other than social media sensation Zach Nation. Nation is somewhat at the forefront of the Harley track movement. Mostly for his impressive corner carving on the infamous Mulholland Drive.

Obviously, the Harley track day participants didn’t just show up and immediately go head to head with the more experienced sportbike guys. They all started out in the novice Group C, but it didn’t take long for most to move up. After a couple of laps, the Harley-Davidson bunch were doing battle in Group B, and a few even moved up to the expert Group A.

It might seem improbable, but Hot Bike came away super impressed with how the V-Twins fared on the track. In fact, Nation himself passed quite a few crotch rockets along the way. Which was obviously hilarious. But it just goes to show you that oftentimes, skill trumps equipment. Plus, the Dyna has proven itself to be a pretty darn good corner carver.

The whole thing looks like a ton of fun. And while we don’t expect people to imagine Harley-Davidson bikes as corner carvers any time soon, it’s nice to know that a rapidly expanding group is proving us all wrong.
