It’s no secret that Sturgis, or riding Harleys in general isn’t just for tough macho guys anymore. Nope. Riding Harleys is for men, women, young, old, Hispanics, Asians, and everyone in between.

Proof of that was the Angel’s motorcycle ride that took place in Sturgis last week during the final weekend of the rally. Female rider percentage has exponentially grown in recent years, and women are starting to have their own events more often during the iconic motorcycle rally. While no statistics are immediately available, it’s rumored that female attendance is in the tenths of thousands, and not just sitting on the back of bikes piloted by males.

Leah Whaley, Harley Davidson’s District Manager, said “I’ve seen the sport grow quite a lot. Women and motorcycling is growing very much over the years. I’ve been with Harley about 16 years and riding a little bit longer than that. Watching the number of women come into the sport has been really exciting and invigorating.”

This specific ride also had a charitable cause, as any money raised in the Angel’s Ride benefited the Nature Conservancy, which looks to plant over a million trees in the next four years.
