Harley confirms continued sponsorship of BUILD Moto educational program for high school students.

Last week, Harley-Davidson announced its continued support for the BUILD Moto program. “BUILD provides high school students an opportunity to learn technical skills including design, welding, fabrication, repair, machining, media, and more, through motorcycle construction,” reads a recent press release.

The document continues, “In addition to acquiring technical skills, teams also participate in marketing and fundraising efforts and host local events showcasing their work.” The renewed sponsorship will begin with the 2025 season and last three years total.

Teens get to build flat track race bikes

The end goal of BUILD Moto is for students to completely rebuild a bike to meet the American Motorcycle Association (AMA) standards for flat track racing. The young team members pair up with at least one local faculty member and up to three mentors from the motorcycle industry. Besides providing items like parts, accessories, and even entire motorcycles, Harley’s sponsorship also includes access to expert help and advice.

During the building process, competing teams must provide progress updates via images and social media. Once again referring to Harley’s press release, “Teams are judged on design, execution, and completion of milestones throughout the build timeline, culminating in a bike reveal and awards event at the end of the program.”

Anyone can volunteer for this good cause

If you’d like to personally get involved with this worthwhile non-profit organization, there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer. To begin, you can lend a hand at local events with setup, teardown, parking, and selling merchandise. If your skills runs a little deeper, you can also host a BUILD booth at different events to build awareness of the cause. Finally, you can work directly with students as a mentor.

Bike builders from the 2024 season are invited to showcase their creations at the opening ceremony of Harley-Davidson’s Homecoming Festival. For the uninitiated, that happens in Milwaukee beginning on July 25, 2024.
