This is a big year for motorcycle lovers. Not only does 2015 mark the 75th running of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, but it’s the start of Harley-Davidson being the official motorcycle of the event for the next 75 years.

That relationship is beginning with an action-packed week of events, some of which will take place in three new locations within Sturgis. Of course, H-D will have motorcycles on hand to test-ride. It will even show off its Project LiveWire electric motorcycle and its bikes from “Captain America” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

There’s much more on the schedule for this year’s rally, which runs August 1-8. Check it out in the press release below.

PRESS RELEASE

H-D Unwraps Rally Point and Unifies all Activities in Sturgis

MILWAUKEE – (July 16, 2015) – From a chain cutting-rally kickoff to the last demo ride, sparks will fly as Harley-Davidson® takes over the city of Sturgis to kick off the 75th Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally® with a new line-up of activities. The start of one of the biggest rallies in U.S. history will be commemorated at a chain-cutting of the new Harley-Davidson Rally Point and brings to life the first phase of the new 75-year relationship between Harley-Davidson and the city of Sturgis making Harley-Davidson the official motorcycle of the rally.

For 2015, Harley-Davidson is uniting all Harley-Davidson and H.O.G.® activities at three new locations: the Rally Point, the Sturgis Community Center and Sturgis City Park – providing rally-goers additional opportunities to make lasting memories during the week-long event.

Derek Shiekhi's father raised him on cars. As a boy, Derek accompanied his dad as he bought classics such as post-WWII GM trucks and early Ford Mustang convertibles.

After loving cars for years and getting a bachelor's degree in Business Management, Derek decided to get an associate degree in journalism. His networking put him in contact with the editor of the Austin-American Statesman newspaper, who hired him to write freelance about automotive culture and events in Austin, Texas in 2013. One particular story led to him getting a certificate for learning the foundations of road racing.

While watching TV with his parents one fateful evening, he saw a commercial that changed his life. In it, Jeep touted the Wrangler as the Texas Auto Writers Association's "SUV of Texas." Derek knew he had to join the organization if he was going to advance as an automotive writer. He joined the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) in 2014 and was fortunate to meet several nice people who connected him to the representatives of several automakers and the people who could give him access to press vehicles (the first one he ever got the keys to was a Lexus LX 570). He's now a regular at TAWA's two main events: the Texas Auto Roundup in the spring and the Texas Truck Rodeo in the fall.

Over the past several years, Derek has learned how to drive off-road in various four-wheel-drive SUVs (he even camped out for two nights in a Land Rover), and driven around various tracks in hot hatches, muscle cars, and exotics. Several of his pieces, including his article about the 2015 Ford F-150 being crowned TAWA's 2014 "Truck of Texas" and his review of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, have won awards in TAWA's annual Excellence in Craft Competition. Last year, his JK Forum profile of Wagonmaster, a business that restores Jeep Wagoneers, won prizes in TAWA’s signature writing contest and its pickup- and SUV-focused Texas Truck Invitational.

In addition to writing for a variety of Internet Brands sites, including JK Forum, H-D Forums, The Mustang Source, Mustang Forums, LS1Tech, HondaTech, Jaguar Forums, YotaTech, and Ford Truck Enthusiasts. Derek also started There Will Be Cars on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
