A new year, a great time to introduce our first Harley-Davidson Forums Member of the Month for 2021! Every month, the mods and admins in our forums choose a member from our community to bestow the honor upon. Not only does the honoree receive admiration and recognition from the community, but also a one-year HDForums Rider’s Club membership, and lots of swag.
For the month of January 2021, meet IdahoHacker (a.k.a., Clay). His life’s been one hell of a ride, and that’s not including his life-long riding career.
From his first 90cc scooter at the age of 15 in 1964 to his current 2018 Honda Gold Wing, Clay rode through life upon a total of 11 motorcycles thus far. Along the way, a Harley or two turned up in the driveway, including a Road Glide he held for three years and 55,000 miles. His rides included two Run for the Wall trips, and treks through nearly all Sierra Nevada passes.
Over the thousands of miles he’s travelled, life’s taken Clay through lots of places. In the early 1970s, he served in the U.S. Army as a Russian interpreter and translator. His tour of duty carried him through military bases in Germany, then to NSA HQ in D.C. After his service ended in 1974, he participated in a Stanford University think tank aimed at integration of computer tech into the construction industry.
Away from the open road, Clay can be found on the green, though not always playing a round of 18. A rules official with the Illinois chapter of the PGA, he’s officiated the local qualifying tourneys for each of the USGA Championships. He currently handles the rules over in the Pacific Northwest.
Again, congratulations to Clay for being our first HDF Member of the Month for 2021. You can read his full story in our MotM thread. If you’re not a member yet, now is the time to join via the link below. You could be the next member we honor!
