Fun-Hating Residents Protest Harley Shop Relocation
Nearby Locals Petition New Canadian Harley Dealership Location, Cite Noise Concerns
Some people like to have fun, and other people like to try and ruin that fun. And Fabreville, Canada-based Prémont Harley Davidson is learning that lesson the hard way as it tries to move its operations to a new location. That’s because some 200 residents who live adjacent to the proposed venue have already signed a petition opposing the move.
The new location is legally zoned for industrial development, but in all fairness it does sit directly across from a residential area filled with single-family homes. One of the residents, who also claims to be an “avid motorcyclist,” has visions of a 12-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week noise fest.
“The issue is not the dealership,” Emilio Migliozzi tells The Suburban. “It’s the potential for noise from motorcycles modified with straight pipes [no mufflers] passing by seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. It will be right next to my house,” he laments. “I love motorcycles, but do I want a [loud] dealership in back of my house?”
‘I love motorcycles, but do I want a [loud] dealership in back of my house?’
On a funny side note, Fabreville Councilor Michel Trottier promised The Suburban that Prémont H-D’s customers aren’t exactly hooligans.
“They assured me that their clients are professionals who purchase the motorcycles as luxury items,” says Trottier. “While it’s true that Harley Davidson’s image [is] linked to biker gangs, that’s not [the] kind of customers that they have.”
While it’s certainly comforting to know that the move won’t attract any biker gangs to the area, that hasn’t seemed to change the minds of angry local residents. For their part, Prémont Harley promises to be a good neighbor. So shouldn’t we give them a chance to do that, at least? Plus, Harley’s may be loud, but that’s part of their badass appeal.
