Ewan McGregor Goes a ‘Long Way Up’ on a LiveWire
McGregor’s latest Long Way series feature custom LiveWire bikes on a trip from South America to L.A., debuts Sept. 18 on Apple TV+.
The future is electric. Auto manufacturers already build or plan to build electric cars and trucks for their customers. Thus, it wasn’t long until Harley-Davidson made a move of their own with the LiveWire. The MoCo’s first electric motorcycle isn’t the first such bike on the market. However, the LiveWire does have plenty of star power just from its parentage alone.
And now, it has Hollywood on board. Actor Ewan McGregor, along with English travel writer Charley Boorman, set off on their third adventure together. Titled Long Way Up, the new doc of the Long Way series sees the pair ride up from South America to Los Angeles, all aboard custom LiveWire adventure bikes.
“I’ve been dreaming of doing a trip through South America for years,” said McGregor, “but life got in the way.”
Last year, according to electrek, McGregor and Boorman rolled out on their 13,000-mile journey last year, beginning at the southern tip of Argentina. The duo chose the LiveWire over their usual BMW bikes to determine if such an arduous journey as theirs could be done on electric power alone. Why not do it with a bit of orange and black on their side?
“I really enjoy the unknown of a town,” said McGregor, “just coming across the people we come across. Learning about the cultures, and seeing how people keep their traditions alive, puts you in touch with yourself and the world in a way.”
Accompanied by a pair of Rivian R1T electric pickups, McGregor, Boorman and their LiveWire bikes first cross through the winter weather of Patagonia. Then, a climb through the Andes, followed by a trek into the rainforests of Central America. Along the way, the duo and their crew must endure tough conditions and tests of their journey.
“You think about all of the things that might go wrong,” said McGregor. “In the middle of the night, things just go around your brain, don’t they?”
To catch McGregor & Co. and their LiveWire bikes, all you need is Apple TV+. Then, watch the drama unfold starting Friday, September 18.
