Elvis' Last Harley

Elvis may have left the building, but his 1976 Harley-Davidson FLH 1200 Electra Glide remains.

He was the King of Rock n’ Roll. We all know him. We all love him. Elvis Presley left an indelible mark on the music industry and on American culture as a whole. He’s inspired countless individuals for decades, even after his death 42 years ago. At one point or another, we’ve all done our own rendition of an Elvis impersonation; gyrating our hips, popping our collar, curling our lip and saying, “Thank you. Thank you very much.” He was an icon in the truest sense of the word.

Elvis was simply the king of cool. And the King needed a perfect steed to ride. Naturally, he chose a Harley. Actually, the hip-swinging Elvis owned several motorcycles. But his last motorcycle, a 1976 Harley-Davidson FLH 1200 Electra Glide, is currently up for auction through GWS Auctions as part of their “Artifacts of Hollywood & Music” exhibit. And, according to Forbes, this sale is likely to make history.

Much of the appeal surrounding the sale of this bike is that it was the very last motorcycle Presley ever owned. Also, the Harley is still registered in the King’s name despite having been sold before his death.

Celebrity vehicles frequently fetch a high price at auction. $385,000 was once paid to secure a 1959 Harley-Davidson FLH Panhead Duo-Glide owned by “The Killer,” Jerry Lee Lewis. An Ariel Cyclone once belonging to Buddy Holly sold for $450,000 in 2014. While these are certainly large numbers, the Elvis’ Harley is expected to fetch between $1.75 and $2 million dollars. With these projections, it is very likely to shatter the current world record of a price paid for a motorcycle: $929,000 set by a 1951 Vincent Black Lightning in 2018.

The Harley has only 126 miles on the odometer, and is in exceptional condition. It has spent the last several years on display at the Pioneer Auto Museum in South Dakota.
