Bike Culture: Crazy story proves two things: 1. Riders need to always be aware of potential idiots on the road. 2. Some motorcyclists are as tough as tanks.

We’ve all heard the urban legend of the driver who was so drunk that police found a pedestrian stuck in the boozehound’s grill the next morning, but that’s not real. However, in Mobile, Alabama, a few weeks ago police did find a motorcycle embedded in the front bumper of a Jeep.

Local police responded to a call at about 6 a.m. on March 15 to a reported accident near Halls Mill and Rangeline Roads. There they discovered an injured motorcyclist, but not his motorcycle nor the vehicle that had hit him. The unlucky biker was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and was listed in critical condition, according to the last reports we could find.

Over an hour later, based on a phone tip, officers found the Wrangler parked nearly a mile away at the Jeep owner’s house. Also found in the 5100 block of Halls Mill Road was the missing Honda Shadow motorcycle, still upright and wedged into the front bumper of the Jeep. The Jeep’s owner, 29-year-old William Pruett, was arrested for DUI, as well as felony leaving the scene of an accident, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of control substances, and first degree assault. This is at least his second DUI, having been convicted in 2008 on the same charge.
