Harley Rebuilt for Disabled Veteran

Vet’s neighbor has no trouble finding help needed to get one hero’s Harley looking and running like new again.

There are a lot of reasons why we’re proud to represent the Harley community. One of the biggest, of course, is the strong outpouring of support we see for our nation’s veterans, day in and day out. And that glowing quality was on full display recently in the town of Mobile, Alabama. It all happened after disabled veteran Sgt. Lenn Targett suffered a stroke, which left him unable to take care of his Harley. The bike sat outside in a state of disrepair, getting rustier by the day, But Targett’s neighbor, Casey Stamps, wasn’t about to let this hero’s hog go to waste.

“”It broke my heart,” Stamps said. “I had to do something about it. I wouldn’t have the freedom to ride my bike. I would not have the freedom to help this vet, had it not been for those who have served and those who are serving.” Stamps shared his story on social media, where it was picked up and passed along by local news source WKRG. It wasn’t long before a whole host of folks stepped forward to help, starting with Mobile Bay Harley-Davidson, who agreed to fix up the bike for free if others could provide the parts. And that’s when The Combat Veteran’s Association Mobile Chapter stepped in and raised the cash necessary to make it happen.

“We went ahead and made a collection and raised $600 for Mr. Targett,” said Steve Doc Mosely, Executive Officer of The Combat Veteran’s Association Mobile Chapter. “Brought that in here Monday, and now he has his bike so he can get that wind therapy in. We were able to get that back to him, and when he is able to ride, it is going to make a world of difference for him.”

Needless to say, Targett was blown away by the generous outpouring of support. And he was pretty excited to get his Harley back in tip top shape, too. “When it came out of that door I recognized that sound right off the bat,” he told WKRG. “There are angels in this world that walk among us. The good Lord has blessed me.”

It’ll be a couple of months before Targett is well enough to ride his freshly rebuilt Harley again. But thanks to a community full of generous folks, he’ll be doing it in style.
