Custom 95th Anniversary Dyna Has Us Missing the '90s

Bright paint, polished mag wheels, and tons of chrome make this ’90s throwback custom worth a second look.

You never know what you’ll find browsing the classifieds on Racing Junk. There’s so much more to click through than just race cars, trailers, and parts. Even if you’ve never been to a race track, there’s plenty of cool stuff to find there.

We’ve noticed that, since Racing Junk is an enthusiast-focused classifieds site, we generally find cooler stuff than we do on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. Our most recent find is this wild 1997 Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide.

We love the new Softail here at H-D Forums, but a part of us is still mourning the loss of the Dyna lineup. We especially miss the FXDWG, the Dyna Wide Glide. It’s one of our favorite Harleys ever.

The bike seen here is more special than most. It started its life out as a 95th Anniversary model. That’s cool on its own, but it just wasn’t unique enough for its current owner.

Total Transformation

According to the ad, the owner completely disassembled the bike for new paint. On paper, the combination of a bright, orangey red and a metallic eggplant purple color shouldn’t work. Here, though, it looks pretty good. It looks like the sort of wild paint jobs we’d see on custom bikes in magazines back in the 1990s.

While the bike was apart for paint the frame was sprayed in that same eye-searing shade of red, another very ’90s touch. The split three-spoke twist mag wheel up front is another touch that’s either dated or retro, depending on how you look at it.

This bike may not follow current trends, but that’s a big part of its charm to us. Like we said earlier, we grew up drooling over bikes just like this in the big custom bike magazines.

The bike was reassembled with about as much chrome as you can fit on a Dyna. The seller advises that some of the polished stainless steel parts were custom made just for this bike.

We’re sure that this wild machine won quite a few trophies in its day. As the years march on, we’re sure it will bring home many more for its next owner.
