Crafty Motorcycle Riders Circumvent Law with Smoky Burnout

Motorcycle Truck Burnouts

Technically, it’s not illegal to do a burnout in Australia if you aren’t on the road. So these motorcycle riders did it on a truck.

You’ve got to hand it to people. If there’s a stingy law getting in the way of fun, somebody’s going to find a loophole. And that’s exactly what two Australian motorcycle riders did while cruising through the city of Kalgoorlie recently. Except, they weren’t actually cruising. They were actually riding on the back of a flat bed truck while simultaneously ripping off some smoky burnouts. And the whole thing was captured on film and posted to Facebook by local resident Rawiri Pau.

So, why would anybody do something like this? Well, outside of the obvious entertainment value, of course, because like most countries, Australia has a “no hooning” law that prohibits things like burnouts on public roads. Since these crafty motorcycle riders weren’t technically on the road, they may not be charged. But of course, that doesn’t mean police aren’t hot on their trail.

“It’s a busy intersection, local pubs and hotels are still open and people are in the area, then you have idiots on the back of utilities doing burnouts,” Sgt Neil Gordon of the Kalgoorlie Police told Perth Now. But Gordon also said that the department is “looking in to” whether or not this counts as an act of “hooning.”

Credit the motorcycle riders for finding new and creative ways to circumvent the law. Even if the police seem determined to find a way to charge them for something. Regardless, it’s probably best to save your urges to light up that rear tire for organized burnout competitions. At least that way, you can get your smoky fix while also staying on the right side of the law!
