BUILDUP Converting a FLTC Tour Glide Classic into a Road King
Forum member Mike Campbell aka MIKE93SVT has taken on one very interesting build. Campbell purchased a 1981 FLTC Tour Glide Classic for $1900 that had been sitting in a shed for eight years.
The bike has a 1986 frame and was partially taken apart when he purchased it, and, considering the fact that the previous owner had passed away, there really was no backstory or explanation as to why these things had been done.
Either way, Campbell set forth an interesting goal for the Harley by deciding he wanted to make it into a Road King.
After replacing the starter solenoid and putting in an Ultima ignition, the bike started right up. Campbell even posted a video of the first (well, technically second) time he started the machine — you can watch it here.
The ride is definitely coming along nicely. He has nearly finished fabricating all that needs to be fabricated, and the ride is looking more and more like a Road King with every post!
The goal for this build is 21″ wheels and a clean and low look. He plans to ride it to work and enjoy it on the weekends, which it will certainly be good for.
He also plans to paint it silver, but is still debating black — since, after all, black always looks good. Go check out his build thread and show your support! It’s definitely a build worth following.
