Best Exhaust for an M8-Equipped Harley-Davidson?

Harley-Davidson M8 Exhaust

There’s no shortage of exhaust options for the Milwaukee-Eight. Thus, we want to know – which one do you prefer, and why?

Without a doubt, the singular most popular modification to any Harley-Davidson is exhaust. Because, well, the factory pipes are just too quiet. Unleashing the signature sound of Harley’s V-Twin engines is something that you’re almost obligated to do from day one. Heck, most new bikes, including the new Milwaukee-Eight family, don’t even leave the lot without at least a slip-on exhaust swap. But with so many options out there, it isn’t a surprise to see Harley-Davidson Forums member NoSecCatfish wonder aloud which one is the best in this thread.

“I have a 2018 Road Glide Special with a Wood 22x cam. I had Rinehart 4” slip-on mufflers on the bike before the cam install. But after the cam was installed I didn’t really care for the sound of the Rineharts. I’ve read all about how exhaust sensitive these M8s are. And I think they are costing me a little bit of low end torque as well. For now, I’ve put the stock mufflers back on the bike.

I’ve heard the new SE Street Cannons on a couple of bikes at my local dealer. I do like the sound of them. And I like the look as well since there are so many different end caps that are available for them. Would they be a decent choice as far as performance goes with the 22x cam? I know the Fuel Moto mufflers are among the best performing out there and considered those. But I like the idea of the Street Cannons if they will not hamper performance. I will be putting a decatted head pipe on the bike as well.”

Some folks, including mjwebb, have nothing but nice things to say about the Street Cannons.

“My experience with them is they are good performers, as they’re straight through core. Now as far as how they play and behave with specific cam choices, I can’t say. But really their performance is not something you read about as being a negative. Fuel Moto mufflers also seem to be very popular. They’re less expensive with good reviews, so you might give those some strong consideration.”

However, several members feel like the slip-ons are far too quiet. Including Mac-427.

“The Street Cannons were way too quiet for me. I know this is strictly a matter of personal opinion, but I really like my Vance and Hines. Great sound when you want it and no drone at steady cruise.”

DeneFXDWG puts in his vote for Rhineharts, for a number of reasons.

“I only have 500 miles on my new M8, but I chose the 4″ Rineharts for their looks and sound quality. After reading a few threads on the Cannons, I hope I chose wisely as a few have said the M8s are exhaust sensitive. I’m all about torque and hope the huge 2 1/2″ baffles on the Rineharts are not killing me. Loaded with bottom end smoothness and roll on grunt.”

One thing’s for sure – you won’t find a shortage of opinions on exhaust options for the Harley-Davidson M8 here. Thus, we’re curious to know what you think. So head over here and tell us (and the OP) which exhaust you prefer and why!
