APL Performance

APL Performance builds custom bikes that will make your draw drop.

Here in the states, we enjoy virtually endless choices when it comes to custom Harley shops. There’s basically at least one builder in every town, no matter how big or small. But in smaller countries like Australia, finding a quality builder presents more of a challenge. Thanks to the tremendous interest Aussies have in motorcycles, however, more and more builders are popping up on the island.

One of the most experienced of the bunch is APL Performance of New South Wales. The owner, Adam Layton, has been tinkering with motorcycles for over 15 years, and today he runs a full service operation. But aside from selling parts and completing routine maintenance and repairs, Layton also builds some of the sweetest custom Harley-Davidson motorcycles around.

Take a look around APL’s Facebook page and you’ll see a wide variety of builds – everything from magazine quality cruisers to dirt bikes. No matter what you dream up, Layton can and will build it for you. And you can bet that no matter what your taste in bikes consists of, the result will be unique. That stems from Layton’s desire to tailor his creation to the customer.

“I make the bikes to fit people and if someone wants something and it can’t be bought, I’ll make it,” Layton told the Hawkesbury Gazette. “It doesn’t matter if it takes me a month just to make the forks so someone has a bike that no one else in the world has.”

Yet he’s still just as content doing small jobs as he is completing full on custom builds. “It is the regular bikes that keep me going, people coming in for tires, tune-ups, handle bar adjustments. I am just as happy to do something like that than to build a $200,000 gold monster.”

That’s exactly the kind of passion that Harley enthusiasts can relate with. No matter which side of the world you live on.
