Japan’s Award-Winning “Zonnevlek” Harley-Davidson Street 750
My cheeks are beginning to hurt grinning at this sleek custom Harley-Davidson Street 750 modified by Custom Works Zon called the Zonnevlek. Japanese masterminds Mr. Yoshizawa and Mr. Ueda who are the two main forces at Zon were offered a chance by Harley-Davidson of Japan to do a custom “Street Build Off” competition using a Street 750 as all of the builder’s base. The competition was judged at the Mooneyes Hot Rod Event that happened just recently at Irwindale Speedway in California. They stole the show winning first place for the build off competition and captivated the crowd with their on-point blend of chopper, dragging bike, low-rider and lightweight cafe racer that went into the Zonnevlek.
Right from the get go the dragging Hoosier and Avon tires are what caught my eyes first. This bad boy means business. After that my eyes scanned into the mechanicals. The lowered stance offers an incredible profile to the bike that truly accentuates the single-sided swingarm and aerodynamically enhanced brake caliper integrated front forks. The bike really looks like a unit leaving little gaps however still capturing that lightweight cafe racer, dragger bike appeal. I really enjoy the look of the angular gas tank fairing flowing into the luxurious cross-quilted black suede seat into the short racing tail. All looks so factory and as if it was meant just for this Street 750.
What I like about the Japanese culture the most is their affinity for fine handwork and technical complex artwork. The engraving sprinkled throughout this build brings a hand-tailored element little bikes actually express in their final production. The gentle art of engraving metal with such small designs is so beautiful to have on your rolling piece of art. Art adds life and this Zonnevlek sure has given life to the Street 750. Be sure to check out Custom Works Zon’s website to see more in detail pictures or information.
Are you working on a Street 750 custom right now? Does this inspire you, how? How about that fine metal work, would you have that done to your Harley?
