Default Help - Timing on 1963 Flat head

Greetings,

Newmember - long time HD owner.

Working on 1963 Flat head and not sure about timing. Here is my issue:

Timing mark on fly wheel which is a groove, does not line up
whenall of the cam gear marks are lined. Is this correct?

The engine runs but not very smooth. Help!
Jesse

Jesse, gear timing is different from motor timing. Flywheel mark is used to time the motor; gears in cam case are timed to properly transmit engine power to the cam gears, crankcase breather, timer, oil pump and generator.

The groove on the flywheel is used to set up the spark timing and not the cam timing, the cams will need to have all their timing marks in line with the pinion drive gear marks.
