Who's gonna win this race? The Nightrod or the Nightrain
I ride a 2006 stock NightRod. My buddy has an 07 Nightrain with a stage 1. He's certain he's gonna wax me! We are going to the track on an 1/8 mile....maybe 1/4. What do you think? I'm interested in everyones thoughts. I think I will get him with ease.......

If you have half a clue how to launch it shouldn't be close on either. Your bike is an 11 second bike (100% stock 1130cc engines have run under 11 seconds on stock Rods with parts removed for weight), where his is a 14 second bike... maybe mid-high 13s with a stage one, maybe.
It's not really close, at all.
Riders are a totally different story, if he can lay down a 1.5 second 60' time and you're sucking it up, or blowing out your rear wheel and end up with a 2+ second 60' he could win, but it'd be your fault.

Thanks...I just bought the vrod. Last bike I had was a fatboy. The rod is so superior in speed and power. I'm just not up on specs of these new beasts. And I've heard all the crap about its not really a Harley as I'm sure others have. All I know is its made in the US and I am totally obsessed with it. I ran it last Saturday on the interstate. Got it up to 120 and got a little scared to be honest. It felt like it had more! What are riders posting on top speeds for the vrod?
The nightrod will kill the train. Have him meet you at the pub when the race is over. You should be ready to order your second beer by the time he arrives...

The limiting factor is the gearing for top speed on a stock V-Rod. There's not room to install a six-speed, so you will redline in fifth. I don't remember where the stock rev limiter is... at redline... 9000 rpm you'll be around 141mph give or take for tire wear. The rev limiter might be stock at 9100 or 9200 which is around 143/144. I've turned off my rev limiter since I'm running with NoS and don't want to ever hit it. I've burried the speedo, so 150ish+, the bike produces less power way up high, but I've had it up to almost 10,000 rpm in 5th, which would put me just shy of 160.
The older models actually had a higher top speed because the gearing was taller, and you'd hit redline about 10mph higher... but get there slower.

That answers my question. Thanks for the responses.
Sure. Stick around and keep posting. This section is slow.

Slow is right...but the general harley chat is faster than most sites...on this section Monk seems to be the guru on vrods...thanks for the great info Monk...
Any air-cooled V-Twin Harley is gonna need some serious $$$$ pumped into its' engine room to spank a stock V-Rod, Night Rod Street Rod, whatever Rod......of course, piloted by equally skilled riders.
Well Rusty How did it go ?? how bad did you beat him ??
