Default RE: Stock seat mod

what can you do for comfort on a FLHTCUI seat? the foam feels to "soft" for me at least thats what I think. currently have the stock seat off and a FLHX seat on, the foam on it feels much firmer and makes me think the problem with my stock seat was I was sinking all the way down and after 100 miles or so the seat pan was what was causing discomfert... sound right to you? Plan on leaving the FLHX seat on unless I put the tourpack back on for out of town travel then I will be wanting he originall seat cause girlfriend things the FLHX seat would be to narrow for long trips. Would replacing the stock foam in my stock FLHTCUI seat with firmer foam make it more comfy for long rides without spending as much money as a aftermarket seat costs? I dont have any issue with "where" the seat puts me, dont need moved back... if anything moved forward a little maybe, which seams wierd to me cause I'm 6'1" but it feels like I am always having to reach to far for the bars... so much so I have considered putting some bars with a couple more inches pull back on.

I can move you forward a little, as far as the foam being too soft isn't the problem its the actual shape of the sitting area that is causing the pain. Fix the sitting area and you will be a happy camper. I've been preaching this for a long time, its not the amount of foam but the shape of it that makes a good seat.

Hey BadX.....I got a 06 Heritage Softail like the one your wife has. I am 6' tall and about 285...a big boy. Every since I broke my tailbone in a fall, the stock seat kills my azz and back. My question, if you are familiar with the stock seat on those, would you keep it and rework it, or I can get a hold of a seat set off a 2002 Heritage Classic which seems wider and a little bigger, and have you rework it? Which seat would be better? I like the looks of the Badlander on yours, but dont know if that would work for me..
Lastly, what did you do about the bolts sticking up through the rear fender when you put the badlander on her bike???
Thanks for the help and insight....

PM me jrudicel, I've still got the stock seat off the Heritage and could possibly mod it to your specs and send it so you wouldn't have any down time then when you get it send me yours.

The bolts are still there on her bike, the badlander covers them I thought they should have came off but they didn't.

Hello Badx

Got the solo stock seat on my 06 SG replaced with a two-up reach seat, would like to go down another 2-3 inches on the solo stock seat without going back this possible? I'm 5'2 148 lbs, with about a 27 inch inseam I would like to be able to bring in my knees a little tighter in, which is not possible with the stock seat. Anyway to shave off a 1/2' - 1' on either side? Thanks for any info. Ray

Very possible and I know the area well where your talking about bringing your knees in. For some reason all the touring seats are wide where you legs go down but its not a problem for me to fix it. I have never measured what I take off right there but guessing it's probably about a 1/2" total, the foam right there is about 1 1/2"s wide so I could go down a 1/2 easy on each side.

Thanks man, I am glad you like it. That second picture of the seat really looks good, when I was doing the mod and sat in the seat it reminded me of a big comfy chair feel to it. Enjoy and be safe.

BadX I am curious what you did to Jrudicel's 06' Heritage Classic stock seat. I have a 06' Heritage Classic, I am 6'4 245# with a bad back and looking for more comfort. I don't think I want to be any lower but a little further back might help. I need a wide seat to support my legs to reduce the strain on my lower back. Right now my ride to work ranges from 45min to 75min depending on stop and go traffic. Not too bad but my seat feels too hard. Do you have any suggestions on what I should do?
