fishtails or sharktails for Road King
#21
This is the same set-up I'm considering, S&S Power tunes with 36" Samson Longtails. Do yours have the baffle in them? How do they sound? Any performance increase?

Im running the standard fish tails, no baffles and they are Loud, BUT thats what i like. Some of the guys complain but i just tell them to not ride behind me. I have thought of trying baffles for long trips as they kind of get your ears ringing afterwards haha! ...from what i have seen it looks like the baffles just slip on and off. So i would think they could be swapped out when you want to.

I'm running the freedom performance 32" "shark tails" on my 03 King. They are traditional fish tail shape and not the shark tail that you see on RG's.
I went with these along with their true dual head pipes and couldnt be happier (minus quiet baffles, see below). What sold me was the seamless look of the 2 1/2" shields and 2 1/2" tails. Gives it that old school look while still having full length shields.
There website is lacking so I would email them for more info/better pics if interested. Also if you do wind up going this route, DO NOT get the quiet baffles they offer unless you want your bike to run like complete s#!t!! I decided to try both when I ordered and the quiet baffles, although quiet, would not let the engine breathe properly. They came installed so I tried them first but after riding a few blocks I turned around and swapped the std. baffles in because the bike literally had no power. After removal I inspected them and couldnt believe the bike even ran with this metal cork!!
Anyway, I returned them no questions asked and now running the std. baffle. They are loud, especially at full throttle but I love the sound (your neighbors, different story...) and it's deeper that that traditional fishtail rapp rapp sound. Also had the bike dyno tuned and only lost 1 hp and actually gained 2 lb/ft TQ compared to stock head pipe with V&H slip-ons.
Pictures suck but you get the idea

No dynos on any fishtails, so I can't talk about performance..... But....
I had V&H true dual fishtails on my Heritage, loved the sound.
Father in law had trial dual Samson fishtails on a heritage.... Sounded cool and looked cool
I also had the 3-4" big slip ons with a shark fin end cap that I've seen on this discussion about three times..... My opinion, they looked pretty good, but were way too quiet!!!! I hated them!!!! To me, they sounded like stock. As soon as the real Harley's started up, I wasn't sure if mine was still running or not! Good thing my mirrors were vibrating :-)
