Default HELP Drain screw at bottom of fork leaking.

I changed my lowers to chrome and now the right side drain screw is leaking. I used new HD chrome screws with new copper washer. I have tried tightening it a little more but it's still leaking. My question is, can I remove it and put sealer on the threads? Also will I lose a lot of the oil?

Thanks
Chris

You'l loose most the oil if not all. remove bolt and put teflon tape on it. And a rubber washer.

2 people job - One to hold the oild from seeping out while you figure out best method to seal the leak....

Mabe you have a slight metal burr that needs 300 grit sanding... if you loose 1 oz. or more, pull the fork off and get the 5.5" of oil as called out in manual - 10wt.

Plumers Tape - is just fine

If I will probably loose too much oil, could I remove the fork and lay it down to remove the screw and use teflon tape?

Yes, but that's a lot bigger job on a bike with a fairing.

You can measure the oil amount comes out and replace it with equal amount of new oil after sealing that leaky screw just need to remove fairing inner cap and use a funnel with little clear hose and go really slow and push the front end up/down as you add little oil at time. Fill hole plug on top is easy to remove can't remember the wrench size but its commonly used wrench in most DIY garages.

Wow! This is a big job to do correctly on a batwing bike...

I would back off the screw few threads, wrap teflon tape on the exposed part, and re-tighten. This might stop the leak.

Well took the tube off this morning and sealed the screw. I can't pour oil in with it on the bike as I added the HD Premium ride to the front end. Wasn't that big of a job. Took me about a hour and a half. Hope that stops it from leaking..
