Try going in the last business day of the month. Often, not always, if their sales were low that month they are willing to deal.

I'm with the poster that suggested to shop the internet. I am soooo done with dealers that have the "pay what we want or walk" attitude. I recently went through this with a BMW cycle I wanted. My local dealer (Las Vegas, we have only one) had the worst attitude I'd ever seen. I got on line and started calling dealers in a radius until I found one that made the right deal on the right bike. Frankly; even if the cost worked out the same between travel/shipping or just paying the extra to the local guy I'd buy out of the area out of principle. I tried to buy my 09 Ultra here too; wound up out of state on that as well. LV HD was over MSRP!! It's your money and time; but no way would I let a dealer win this.

ran into same problem cash in hand at a local dealer here in metro Atlanta they are telling me all about the reduction in manufacturing, best they can do is about $4000.00 over msrp out the door so I come home send out around 20 emails 2 days later I am arranging to put a deposit on a new ultra for what the msrp is out the door.

I refuse to pay MSRP. Never done it on a car, truck or bike. If you're not in a rush you can always fine a deal that's palletable to you.

Considering the economy, the riding season is about up and the amount of Harleys that are about to go on the market I would pick up a low mile '09 in about a month. Screw the dealer, screw paying high taxes on the bike, maybe get some free upgrades that were already put on the bike and get a SMOKING deal.

But that's just me.

Fly into Bangor, Maine. Stop in to Central Maine Harley in Hermon and ask for Frank, they won't screw you around and you'll save enough to pay your air fare.

Anyone buying a new Harley might want to read this post by Scubadog. It defininitely helped me.
