Correct. But a good oil and a superior quality filter is the cheapest insurance you can buy.

okay, lemme see now. twenty grand in a bike, and don't want to spend 6 or 8 bucks for an oil filter? J C Whitney used to sell a filter, i can't remember the name of it, but it used a roll of toilet paper for the filter element. i can imagine what was going through the oil pump, lifters, etc. the twin cam motors use a 5 micron filter, unlike the evo motors. i'll continue using disposable filters in my bike. have some faith in the engineers who designed the motor, or not. your bike, your choice.

Ok I keep forgetting what the amount I spent on my bike purchase has to do with aftermarket parts. So I pay 20 grand for a bike I shouldn't care what parts cost?
What if I pay 15k for a bike can I try to save some money then? Whats the official rule?
Just maybe doing some work myself and not paying thru the nose for everything I can have my 20k bike and a little money in my pocket. JMHO

I'll stick with the stock filter type. I use an after market Wix chrome filter. $10.00

Just out of curiosity, how do you clean these reusable filters. I have a reusable K&N air filter and It's a drag waiting for it to dry before I can re-install it. I'd hate to have to wait like that before I could complete my oil change. It's probably not for me but I'm still curious.

I read or heard somewhere (probably here) that the stock HD filter has some sort of extra bypass that allows oil to get where it needs to go faster on cold starts? From what I understand, aftermarket filters don;t have this and it is and for the bike.
