I have an '08 Road Glide with the HD lowers for that model. They make a great difference in comfort in the winter and really tame the buffeting that this model is known for. Now that the Electra Glide lowers can be fitted by replacing the fairing brackets, I would definitely go that way if I was going to purchase lowers again. I have seen the Hogg Chops, and they are an excellent value for the price, but I really like the looks and quality of the HD lowers.

Why can't regular lowers be notched for the support bracket to fit the RG? Is there another clearance issue? I have not had the chance to actually hold both styles at one time to compare them, possibly someone else has? If the 2010 brackets only move the fairing up 7/8", I am trying to understand why that amount cannot be trimmed off the standard lowers.

Who makes those vents?
Do they flow well?
Do they close completely?

I pondered Hogg Chopps for a long time but ended up going with factory.

I would probably do the updated mount and go with vented ultra lowers if I was to do it again.

Does removing the air deflector from the bottom of the tripple tree make any difference?
I have planned on removing it but haven't found the time to do it yet.

They allow a reasonable stream of air when open, not like big ultra vents, but enough to blow out extra heat

and they do close completely.

Are they sold as pairs?

I installed these Vents on my Ultra Lowers. They did not have the Factory Vents. They were easy to install. I used a Drimel Tool to make the holes and sealed them with Black RTV. I had my Ultra Totaled and replased it with a 2009 Road Glide. I have the Factory FLT Lowers on order and will put the same Vents in place.

I like the Factory 2009/Earlier Lowers. They have the Lip that meets the Fairing better than the Eletra Glide Lowers.

Heres a thread with some relevant info:
http://hdforums.com/forum/touring-mo...ml#post5730502

There are other vents available for RG lowers. They mount in the front leading edge of the lower. Search Flea-Bay. I bought mine for $30.

To summarize the thread:
2 choices on lowers for RG's
RG lowers w/o vents (until the moco discontinues)
Bat wing lowers (with the use of new fairing brackets)

Road glide lowers:
Pros
Easy bolt on
Effective blocking wind
Better when its cooler

Cons
No vents
Hotter in the summer
Glove boxes separate (overpriced)

Bat wing lowers:
Pros
Has vents
Higher fairing mounting
(good if your tall)
Cooler in the summer

Cons
Fairing bracket has to be replaced
Less wind protection

Another plus is you can get them color matched from the factory
