I know a guy that had that problem and he laid a weld bead on the bars. I dont think he welded the bars to the clamp but just a small bead directly on the bars in the right spot so the clamp could tighten down on the right spot next to the weld bead. After typing this, welding the bars to the clamp and then tightening the clamp may be an option however.
bars are steel and the clamp is probably.so i dont think that will work
they sell one piece clamps in drag specialties also.ive run 1.5 " bars on last two bikes.used the risors out of drag with no problem and bought the one piece clamp ot of drag this time.the one piece has set screwsin it that you tighten into the bars.on my sporty i did this to the stock clamp and never had a problem
+1 on cutting shims from an aluminum beer or soft drink can. Wrap them around the bar where the serrations are. Don't know about with the 18", but this worked with a 16".
I was having the same problem and the owner of the local indy shop told me to tighten the front (headlight side) part of the clamp as tight as you can get it first then tighten the back part of the clamp (tank side). I did this and my hasn't come loose yet - I'm running 16" Wild 1 apes.

Ive done apes on many RK's and there are two things that you need to do. First off Drag Speciaties sells a one Piece Clamp that will work on the RK's and two is to change out the riser bushings with Polyurathane ones. After doing that i have NEVER had a problem with movement on the bars.
I stongly recommend that you dont alter the bars in any way with drilling, etc... as the bars will crack later on. And no matter what you use between your clamps and bars it wont work half as good as just spending a couple dollars on the right parts...
