You guys are right... I stand corrected. It does in fact come out the front.

jberg, wally and Moe55: Thanks for the info. Uninstalled the air gauge today. Removed the chrome bezel without even heating it. Just pulled off. It definitely will fit on the oil temp gauge but I can see how it does fit more loosely than it does on the air temp guage. The guage is actually the same size but I believe the geometry of lip that the chrome bezel is installed on is a little different . Three dabs of silicone should do the trick.

Ran out of time to install the new oil temp gauge. Interested in if it looks like the other illuminated gauges.

Pictures will accompany the next update.

Mine all look the same. Just make sure you use the little condom from the temp gauge bulb on the new oil gauge.

Picture of the oil temp gauge with bezel. (Test response to make sure I know the correct photo format and size.)

Picture of chrome bezel installed on oil temp gauge. This is the chrome bezel I removed from my air temp gauge. Came right off of the air temp gauge after having been installed for 3 years. No heat required in this case. The double sided tape does a good job of holding the chrome bezel on the air temp gauge but provides little resistance when a small amount of gentle pressure is applied to remove.

The P&A catalog indicates you can't use the chrome bezel on this gauge. The chrome bezel may not work with the double sided tape provided because the fit is a little more loose than the air temp gauge but it works fine when installed with 3 dabs of silicone.

Okay - the bezel works - but does the oil temp gauge work? If that is as accurate as the ambient air temp gauge, why bother. I know my oil is hot when I sit at a light and my inner theighs start to cook. I know the oil is cold when I sit at a light and have to put my hands on the cylinders to recover some feeling in the fingers. Don't get me wrong, I love all my Harleys, but I just do not put much faith in most of the gauges. Never been a problem for me. I know when the bike is hot by the way it runs.

I think you already have the answer. Sounds like you've got it all figured out. Why would you waste your time reading a thread on oil temp gauges?

Just for entertainment. I know most of us like gauges. I like gauges. I have learned though, that the HD gauges really don't tell us much. They are cute and fun, but not too worthwhile. JMHO.
