I use the Harbor Freight aluminum MC lift. Light weight and easy to use. I had one of the heavier HF red lifts but it was very heavy to move around and kind of clunky to use but it worked very well for what it was intended.

I've had my bike/ATV jack made by Jet for about 6 or 7 years. I use it every time I wash the bike. Never used straps. Doesn't really work for me for changing oil, but its nice to keep the bike upright when installing accessories and doing other work.

Get a good jack and then you won't have to worry about lifting the bike for cleaning on routine maintenance. Several good ones out there. I like my J&S lift/jack.

Sorry 'bout that. I checked the number to another HF site and got one with the price. Looks like the price went up since I bought mine a year or so ago. I paid $140 and it's listed now at $180. It wouldn't hurt to find a sale or coupon.
I use the Sears aluminum jack, too. I have not tied the bike to it yet. For the life of me, I cannot understand the theory of why the bike should be strapped to the jack. If the jack were securely bolted down to my garage floor then it might mean something.
