I have the J&S jack too. I can put my bike up on it, and push it all around the garage. I had a Sears Yellow jack but it broke.

Goodyear motorcycle jack from Sam's Club for $70. I was pretty nervous using it at first but once I started to feel better about lifting it I wouldn't have a bike without one.

I've never used straps on mine.

I've been investigating this lately and may be going with this jack. Have a local Northern Tool store in the area.

I have one of these on the bike
http://www.wheeldock.com/prod_EZ.shtml
I leave it on it for storage in the garage but put a 3/8 piece of wood ( mdf ) under it the back wheel will spin.

Thanks everybody! Seems most think straps are not needed. I guess I'll either go with a red craftsman jack or see how inexpensively I can get a J&S shipped to Florida for. Great help! Bob

If you like using a jack, is it safe to lift your bike without straps, etc. Thanks for the help! Bob
You might want to check this out. Great jack for cleaning wheels and more.

I have been using a Craftsman Red jack for years.Never use straps unless I'm changing a tire.
