I have the manuals (much cheaper) on my Stage II 103" build with 255 cams. I have put 6000 miles on the bike including hot summer driving in the Badlands and Black Hills and have not used the CRs once.

On the other hand, my previous bike was a 2002 Heritage with a hot 103" kit with 260 cams and headwork. When hot it definitely needed the CRs (again manual) to start when hot. They were not needed for a cold start.

With 10.5:1 compression ratio, the release buttons are a must on my FLHR. What a difference when I forget to use them!?!

Absofreakinlutely. Dont be an idiot and do a build and NOT put in CR's. I would have destroyed my starter already had I not put them in my build. LIke Firetender stated, I was QUICKLY reminded when I forgot to use mine once..............never again will I forget.

As for the choice of CR's? Its not a matter of IF they'll carbon up, it's a matter of WHEN. Ask me how I know. Your choice but put some.

Unless you get a sticky one that the dealer tells you will loosen up with time. My rear one just got worse. On a hot start you have to jam on it to open it and then have to pull it up with your fingers to close it. I can grab it with my summer gloves but can't with my winter gloves. It's kind of hot to try it bare handed.
