He's probably being pretty practical also since this is a mild mod.

After reading so much on this forum, I have decided to get the CRs. I'm going to do the manual releases. Many say the wind up not needing them, but others say they were necessary. I'm probably going to have them set up the compression close to 10:1, so I'd rather be safe than sorry. I live in MN, but tour out west and east coast, so I could be in some hot areas on the interstate with some hot starts.

I'm also going to ask about lifters. Some build shops sugest they be changed when you do the upgrade and my 07 Ultra has almost 34K on it now.

Good luck to both of us!

My indy said he will keep the compression under 10:1 and there is no way I would need compression releases.

Brihvac, I notied that you are in Delaware. I live close by in Chester County, PA and have used Freedom on several occasions. Great people to work with. I am interested in doing a similar build as you. Who is the Indy that you are using to do the work?

Thanks!

Freedom was $2200 with no dyno tune.

Default Big change

I bought a 2010 RKC in August. I was surprised at what a dog it was. The dealer gave me the option of covering the changes under the 2 year warranty, so I had the 103 SE kit put in. That has the 255 cams. I also put on the SE tuner and Vance & Hines monster ovals. The package cost @$2900. (Monster Ovals were @$600 of that)

I have put a 1000 miles on it and it has plenty of power. It went from a dog, to having plenty of Bagger power. I am happy with it. It won't keep up the the rockets, but I like riding sitting upright.

I have to go in to get the final tune done, but I will wait until late Winter. I am probably going to pony up for the V&H duals of some sort. I don't like the heat issues with the bike and I don't like how quiet it is.

I had the 103" Re-bore, 255 Cams and Manual CR's done on my '08 Ultra just last week. Already had Rinehart True Duals, Ness Big Sucker and Sert on the bike. My Dealer in Bidwell Ohio did the work for $1000.00. That's the estimate he gave me before the work started and he was true to his word. Going to wait for the 1000 mile break-in before doing further dyno tuning. Compression is slightly under 10-1 and she runs a lot stronger.

Default $1000 - Wow

Wow, a 103" for $1000! That is a great price. I just got the formal estimate from my dealer, $1600 w/o dyno. Includes bored cylinders, pistons, MCRs, SE 255 cams, base line and after build runs on dyno (but no tune). Also includes better bearings, new lifters, SE clutch spring, oil change, new spark plugs and fluid for the clutch. I'd probably do the build, but am concerned about other cost....

Dyno tune needed? $240+tax
Exhaust needed? $1-1,200 (I currently have SE slip ons and stock exhaust, but an IDY told me that unless I changed the exhaust system - something to do with the cross over sensor and the left side bringing in cold air - that I'd see little to no perf gains)

If the add on's are required, I guess I'll just stay "stock" (SE A/C, SERT and SE slipons). The bike runs good (no problems). Just would have liked to get a little more low-mid range performance and better mpg.

Any of you experts that have gone thru similar builds have comments? Suggestions (oh boy, am I leaving an opening here!)

I figured I will just do the cams and get Fuekmotos new headpipe.
I think this is a good option, as if you find that you need more power you can always increase displacement to 103ci later. I did the cam-only mod to my TC96 and am very happy with the result.

If you have moderate mechanical skills you can perform the cam change yourself, probably for <$300. I did a write-up here if you want some DIY tips.

The 255's come in all 110ci CVO bikes and Stage II kits, and since some owners want peakier cams there are quite a few that come up for auction on Ebay for $100-150, new and used. I bought a used but perfect set for $110 from a forum member and did the cam swap for $285 including the inner-bearing installer/removal tool, Timkin inner-bearings, and the unnecessary HD cam-install kit. With some creative cost-cutting you can do the job for probably <$200 if you reuse the stock pushrods. Adjustable pushrods will shorten the job 2-3 hours but will add about $150 to the total cost.

Before purchasing my '09 SG I rode a VTX1800 with a PC III and aftermarket exhaust. It dyno'd 111 HP and 107 TQ. So when I first rode the SG, needless to say, I was a bit depressed with its performance.

I went with the 103, Stage IV with my dealer doing the install. The cost was considerable, but worth it so it could be covered under both warranties. The State IV came with the SE Heads, pistons, cylinders, push rods, 260 cam and D&D Boss 2 into 1 with 11:1 compression ratio. Its a runner now. Dyno'd 116 HP/110 TQ. Oh, and I can't imagine it without the ACRs. Especially for hot-starts.

Gentlemen, when I start it up. All heads within 100 feet turn. That 260 cam sounds sweet through the D&Ds.
