Default Single sided brake a bad idea?

I can't believe I am thinking it, but I been toying with the idea of a 21in front wheel. But I thought if I am going to do it, why not make it single sided.

My bike is an 06 SG. I am not a big guy. Under 170. Would a single sided brake be unsafe? What about going with a 6 piston brake? Thoughts?

Thanks
Eric

Well you are reducing the contact patch on the front tire so you will have less traction anyways so if you have less braking power up front it might not be a bad thing. Had a Fatboy they only had a single sided disc up front , but they don't weigh as much and are not rated to carry as much as the SG. I think HD uses duals up front to reduce brake fade due to excessive heat when loaded down. I would go 13" if I had to go single sided up front.

Depends how you ride and the terrain you ride in. If you find yourself braking from 95 into a 25mph corner down a 1 : 15 grade often then 2 discs on a 800+lb bike are a good idea. If the hardest braking you do is a light squeeze in the pub parking lot then you will be fine.

Not being a big fan of HD brakes, don't see how much worse it can get. I had also played with the idea of a 360 Brake...still may do it. If you do decide, let us know how it works out for you.....

I am not an aggressive rider. So with a good brake like Performance Machine and a larger disk would be good? Or do you think it is just a bad idea?

Is the 360 brake pretty new? Dependable?

Nah go for it. The calipers on your 06 were nothing to write home about. if you go for a decent 4 or 6 piston PM or similar you might actually end up better off!!

It never ends does it? I was thinking about a new set of wheels, maybe contrast cut. But that would be expensive. So I was thinking the same style wheel just in a 21inch.
