The problem with the '07's was they were different than the '99-'06's.
1st and 5th straight cut gears were louder. That can be addressed with heavier tranny gear lube/IDS.
They were hotter than the '06's. Many ways to address that issue.
There was a rattling in the drivetrain that can be addressed with IDS.
In other words the '07's were different and according to the experts in '07 they were all going to self destruct and Harley would be out of business by now. Hasn't happened. There are alot of satisfied '07 owners.
I'm keeping mine.

07 is the best year for the SG. 09 went with a new frame that is to stiff and sits an 1" higher. 08 have the tbw, fat 6 gallon tank...to wide. 2010's have all above plus catlytic converters and no duals.

I never really looked at like that but you're right. If the back end starts getting a little loose there are some good inexpensive fixes for that now too. The Progressive and Throttleup units come to mind.
The only problem My 07 has had is I only got to put 15,000 miles on it Great bike, it had 3 miles on it when i took it out the show room And you do not need no IDS

I know more about my '07 than any other motorcycle I have owned in 40 years of riding. I don't disagree with donf610's conclusion but I have refrained from offering it myself because there seems to be a whole lot of forum members that like to flame members who go on and on about how their model year is "the best."
I have great respect for anyone who can offer a truly objectice assessment of any bike/model year.

I don't have the IDS, and don't seem to need one. The fifth gear whine is very very faint, and of no concern whatsoever. I do have a swingarm brace to go on to combat the rear wheel steer issue.
The bike ran real hot even with an oil cooler until I put the fuelpak on. No real problems after that. I may still do the true duals just to get rid of that goofy h-pipe.
There's nothing wrong with an '07, other than it came in a too-lean condition from the factory. The bike needs a good stage I treatment to wake it up, which, co-incidently, usually addresses the heat problem.
