My post was in reply to your:

I don't think the Harley 103" kit is that impressive for what it costs, it only gets a little more torque than my set up and usually less HP.
IMO the additional Torque and where it's hitting in the power band more than justifies the additional costs of the BB kit; especially when your a diligent shopper like UltraKla$$ic!

The numbers and Torque Curve speak for themselves.

As an alternative, I'm thinking I could just put new cams in and forgo the 103 upgrade. I'm not unhappy with the performance I have now... I do a lot of 2-up riding, so a little extra torque and hp would be nice. Don't know if I'd get that much or not... can you help? Also, what kind of cams would you suggest to give me good power up to 4500 rpm.

My ride: 07 Ultra, SERT, SE A/C, SE II slipons.

I've put about 14k on my '07 Ultra since putting in cams last winter, and since 99% of my riding is 2-up I can assure you that while the right set of cams is a nice upgrade it's not a real eye opener/seat of the pants rush.

Any increase in torque is a plus; but when riding 2-up/loaded my current config just doesn't do it. Previous 95" StageII '05 RK offered a better power band; though the bike was a bit lighter. But was primarily 2-up also.

IMO, most riders doing a lot of Touring/2-up will not be satisfied with cams only; especially on these heavy baggers.

Good luck with your project!

I prefer Jag's torque curve with the HQ-500 cams to the SE-255; nominal differences in numbers can be, and often are, a function of the dyno used. I live near Frazier's HD and among HD shops (roughly 5 within 30 miles) it's reputed to have a happy dyno. Don't know this to be true, but the results posted for an SE 255 BB kit are atypical.

My bike is an 88" '04 with Rinehart TD's and SE a/c with the same HQ cams for the 88" (HQ-0034) and the bike runs stronger (not hot rodding; just more torque/hp for normal riding) than SE 95" stage II kits.

patriotmc, continue your research and good luck with your project.

Default 103 BB or Cams??

Thanks to all who responded. I do have a question about the cam only upgrade. I thought changing the cams would only result in more torque but some of you also mentioned HP. Do you get both?

Also, I have over 33K on my 07 Stage I. I have the SERT with a map loaded by the dealer but have not done a dyno. I only get 40 mpg on the road. Do you think if I do a dyno, I could get more perf AND better MPG? If I added the SE255 could I get even more? Some of you mentioned the HQ500. Is this a better cam if I do cam only?

My objective is to get better perf and mpg with low cost, but overall, I want to maintain the reliability. My 2 year warranty is over and I really would like this bike to last 150K miles!

The HQ500 really kicks in over 2500RPM. From what I hear, if you typically run 2000-2400 RPM when riding, there are better choices out there. However, I'm leaning towards the HQ500 myself as I have no problems running at 2500 or higher.

All depends on your riding style. Get the cam that works best with the way that you ride.

Don't mess around.. Go to 107" 10:1 compression, wood TW6 cam, TTS Master Tune with a good Dyno tune to tweak the map. You will have a solid 110HP 120 torque... Smiling from ear to ear with plenty of power for 2up.

Heck yes you are going to get more HP and Torq from a cam upgrade and yes a Dyno tune will result in higher HP and Torq #'s.
You will NOT get more using the 255 cam over the HQ500, that's what the old HQ sight used to show.
I have found that my bike genuinely runs much better, sounds better, starts better, is almost as quiet as the the stock cams and IMO of all the $1000's I have spent on my 07 that this is the best upgrade I have made to my bike.

I allready had HQ 500 cams but just had my cylinders bored to 106 , heads ported, and Keith Black pistons for $800.00. Do to the wheather haven't been able to put enough miles on to v-tune yet but it sounds and feels stout. This was a lot cheaper than going with the HD stuff.

I currently have the HQ500's or the 0034's (same cams) in a 95" motor, it's a 06 ElectraGlide Standard, stage1 WFOLarrys heads and KB flatops and BUB7 truduals, the bike pulls great from 2000 and all the way to the limiter at 6200 rpm's, 84hp and 95tq, still running the 8 degree injectors which is hurting me a little on power but the cams are great, I'd stick some in that 96" engine and put a TTS tuner and have it dynoed tuned and I'll gaurentee you'll be a happy camper.
