Default Harman Kardon Radio

I know there have been lots of post about these radios but most of them are about CD skipping and I'm having a different problem. When riding the radio actually seems to be cutting in and out, its not cd skipping because it does it throught the fm radio as well. When it cuts in and out there is a speaker icon on the lower right hand side of the screen the starts blinking on and off. I have a service scheduled but was hoping someone has so experience with this problem and can give me some advice. I've had the fairing off and can't find any loose connections.

It is most likely in your speaker selection switch if you have one. When the switch is on Headphones it shows the icon you describe. If you do not have a speaker selection switch, you probobly have a short in the speaker harness or the radio itsself has an internal short.

Since I don't have the headphone switch, my bike is a standard, then I'm going to assume it is a short. Probably in the harness because it cuts in and out when riding, its fine sitting still. I called to different dealerships about the problem, the first one said that even though it is covered by warranty that they would look at it and then order parts. They told me I have to leave the bike with them until parts come in or pay extra to have them put it back together so I can ride until the parts come in. I don't think I like the idea of it sitting in pieces in a shop waiting a week for parts. So I called Daytona which is where I bouth the bike and they said they would get me in and out the same day and if they need parts then they would put me back on the road at no charge until the parts come in.

Found out this week that when they calibrate the radio the tech has to chose two speaker or four. Mine is a two speaker set up and the tech mistakenly hit four. Radio had the be reprogramed again to get rid of the speaker code. It took HK three days to deliver a refurbished radio, 15 minutes to install it and 20 minutes to reprogram it. Quit working on the way home. Third radio is on order and will also be a refurbished radio.
REFURBISHED RADIO= SOMEBODY ELSES PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They fix em and bench test them in a warm, dry vibration free atmosphere then don't understand when they quit working once they are installed on the bike...

my 1st radio waited six months before it did several crazy things. Then the screen went blank which is when it got swaped after waiting a week
2nd radio waited two days before it started acting crazy. when you put it on weather band you see a third of the screen is showing a partial bar and shield logo and the rest of the screen is showing the weather band info.
Called the dealer told him who I was, he said do you have radio problems, I said yes, he said wait until the 07's come out and I will get you a new redesigned 07 radio.
Gotta get the fork lock recall done as well so I'll try to get all at once.

Default RE: Harman Kardon Radio

I just bought an '06 Electr Glide Standard a month ago and decided to fork over the $1,000.00 for the radio and I installed it myself. Wish I had come here first. My question is the calibration. What exactly is done? I'm guessing they drop a CD in the player and set up, so is there a place I can buy the CD and program it myself instead of paying an arm and a leg to have them do it?
