Default Garmin 255 GPS Dead after 30 days

Ok, I'm cheap. I wanted a GPS for the Ultra and just couldn't convince myself to spend 600.00 for the 550 or 660 so I went with the 255. I got a really nice mount from Leader Motorsports, ran the power from the cigarrette lighter on the bike and really liked the way the setup looked. Got the whole setup, GPS and all, for less than $250.00 That was 30 days ago.

Went to leave for a ride yesterday morning and the thing was dead, would not power up. I just used it Saturday night. I'm thinking the vibration killed it. SH1T!!! This always happens to me when I try to save some green.

Is this a situation of "you get what you pay for" or is this just a unit that would have gone bad anyway. I'm going to try to get Garmin to fix it.
Oh yea, I also bought the lifetime maps for it from Garmin for $120.00. I hope I'm not out the $$$ for this also.

Anyone else here using the Garmin 255 successfully on their bike? What do you think?

The only models that I see for motorcycles are the 660 and 550. I suspect Garmin will deny your warranty claim if you're honest with them.

Read the manual. My Zumo "died" this weekend. IT would not power up on external or internal batteries....

Pulled out the manuel (should be one on line if yoiu have thrown it away) and found a reset function and it is now good to go.

Don't panic just yet. Als might be the fuse. Eliminate the simple first.

To each his own

If you send it to Garmin...They will take care of you! They have excellent customer service I don't see any problems with them repairing or replacing.

Oh, you may have just saved me $600.00!!! Mine has no reset button and did not come with an actual manual. I downloaded the manual from Garmin and it said the reset was holding the power button for over 8 seconds. It came back up while connected to my PC. My fingers are crossed! Thanks Man!!!

You DA MAN!!! After I figured out how to reset the dam thing, and charged it back up all worked fine. 4 hours later I then got an email from the Garmin folks telling me that if the battery gets too low the unit will not power up until plugged in and reset. They told me to do the same thing you did. I came REALLY close to just ordering the $600.00 one off the internet Sunday night I was so pissed. Boy am I glad I posted on here first.

I owe you a beer.
