I’m looking for a socket that I can use to loosen the nuts on the passing lamps without cutting the wires. I’ve seen the socket the guys at the HD garage have that has a slot cut up the side in a spiral fashion to allow the socket to rotate with the wire sticking out the side of the socket.
Where can I buy such a socket?
I called the stealer (Cowboy HD) and they want the minimum ½ labor ($40) to slide my passing lamps forward ½”. Their parts department doesn’t sell Harley specific tools which I find odd.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks!
GG

It's a 9/16" nut; buy a cheap deep socket and cut a 3/8" or so wide slot along its length with a grinder or Dremel tool. But don't ratchet away or eventually the thin wire will tear as it's wrapped around the socket--two or three clicks then reposition the socket on the nut.

Jim the nut is recessed up in the lamp housing with a wire running through the middle of the nut. It requires a deep socket as there is no way to get a flare nut wrench or crow foot socket up in the housing. The Snap-on flare nut socket ($60 steep for a 9/16" socket) and the modified deep socket the dude on Ebay sells ($15) are the only means of getting a tool on the nut. Unless you want to cut the lamp wire and solder, heat shrink, etc. Which is not that big of a deal but I would rather not cut the wire if don't have to just to adjust the driving lamps.

I printed a photo of the Snap-on flare nut socket and duplicated the modification on an old deep socket. Used a bench grinder and a file. Worked like a charm.
