That is a complete farce, you check pressure just like anything else and you can add air to them. Air is 78% nitrogen anyway. Another marketing ploy to sell something we don't need. I agree with use is race cars to help with pressure build up, but street tires forget it. Mike

1) the tire looked more like a knobby, that a street tire, you could SEE the difference without shadows
2) not a "warranty issue" but a "rolling change" in design
3) construction of bias ply is in the proper direction, just the tread is reversed
4) I'd be looking into other tires, but that's just me
seems the official stand is there is nothing wrong with the D407F, which one would expect, rather than offer a free replacement. Policy is to use current in-stock 407Fs until supply is gone. The D-407F is now "obsolete" but the current inventory of 407F are now sporting D408F inventory stickers. When my buddy had the dealership replace his "knobby" they ordered a new D408F. He brought the bike in, and when they rolled it out, I could see from inside the showroom, it was the 407. The parts guy, had place the sticker on the bill, and the sticker was clearly labled "D408F". We walked out, and read the tire. The tire was clearly labled "D407F". Parts guy was real good about it, and took a 408 from a new bike, and mounted THAT on friend's bike.
Moral to the story... HD states 5-10 thousand miles is acceptable on a front tire. If you have to replace the tire, be sure to see the tire before mounting.
I posted a new thread last night after getting home from my Dealer. It's called... Great experience with a Dealer today. I explained in it how I had a tire problem on my 09 EGC. It was a 407F Dunlop. I had called the Dealer I bought my bike from and he gave me the old story some of you may have heard before about since I had almost twelve thousand miles on my bike Harley probably wouldn't do anything, but he gave me customer services number anyway. I called CS and spoke with a nice lady name Roxanne. She gave me a reference number to take to my Dealer. I didn't go to the Dealer I bought my bike from, I went to a good Dealer in Dalton Ga. The service guy took the bike in without a word and changed the front tire to 408F. He also changed the rear tire because it was cupping too. He also told me there was a recall on my Jiffy Stand. He said the problem with the 407F tires was a directional one that was caused by HD wanting the tread facing in the direction the 407f's are facing because of apperence. The 408f is a redone 407F with the tread facing opposite. He took me into the showroom where he still had a couple of 09's with the 407F on them. He said they were selling the bikes and telling people to put a few miles on them, bring them in and he would change them out under warranty. I had 12K miles on my old tires. Today I new rubber front and rear free from HD. I'm a happy rider!!!!

I hope you are joking, but just in case, my advice is....FIND A NEW DEALER TO GO TO FOR SERVICE. That's complete crap. Gas pressure is gas pressure, whether it's helium, oxygen, nitrogen, argon, or whatever.
OR maybe take them your air guage from your garage, paint the end green and tell them it's a nitrogen specific air guage and you'll sell it to them for $5000 - cause it's the first one of it's kind in the USA!

if thats the case... why do they need a special gauge to check nitro pressure?

nope, not joking. i also went to an indy place and for cars but the do nitro and they would not touch it either... said if it has air and they check for nitro the pressure reading will be off. if i want them to put nitro in they have to vaccum all the air out and if the bead breaks then im s o l cause they dont do mc tires... nitro is new to me so im only going on what 2 seperate places have told me...

Why would you want to change to something else? You already have the updated D408F on the front, so that is good. The dual compound D407 on the rear is the longest wearing rear motorcycle I have ever used in over 40+ years of riding. I have 21,000 miles on mine and I expect at least another 1000 miles out of it before I retire it. With most rear tires 8-10,000 miles is about normal.
I don't think any of the aftermarket folks are going to be making tires for the 09 Touring bikes for another year because of the bastard size and marketing aggrements in force.
