Default Rear Cylinder shutdown

That's a cheap way for the MoCo to get around the overheating. Get it to run richer and the problem is solved.

Spoke to one of the Hraley engineers at Sturges 2 weeks ago. He said it was developed for rider comfort, though it probably helps alot with engine cooling. Only works in nutrual or with the clutch in and stopped. He also told me it only activates when the cylinder temp goes over 140 degrees centigrade. Scheduled for my down load on tuesday. The new program gives any 08' the option of turning it on or off at will.

All early 08's have their ECM updated so they function like the later 08 and all 09 and can turn EITMS on or off rather than have to go to dealer to switch on and off.

In the manual, they say the idle may be quite different and the exhaust may have a different smell. So I bet the sound does not seem like a harley and that is the main reason why it is off by default.

I turned on this feature on my 08... But even on 100 degree days it has no come on in traffic.

My 08 RG has a 103 build with a flashed stock ecm. My bike has the "selectable feature", which allows me to turn it on or off by rolling back the throttle and holding it for at least three seconds. After three seconds the cruise control light will flash red to indicate the EITM is off or green to indicate the EITM is on. The cruise control light will flash the appropriate color as long as you hold the throttle back against the stop. It doesn't matter whether the cruise control switch is on or off. I believe the indications are easier to read if the cruise control switch is off.

I live in the desert and ride in a lot of heat. I have heard the EITM cut off the rear cylinder several times. I notice a difference in the sound and a slight difference in the engine vibration. I have not noticed any kind of "unique exhaust odor". The bike idles fine and I can tell that the heat doesn't build up like my '02 does. When it kicks in while I'm in traffic I simply crack the throttle slightly before I start to engage the clutch so that both cyclinders are firing when I'm ready to go.

My owner's manual has an extra unnumbered page in it between page 140 and 141 that someone placed in it. It states that "Early 2008 models do not have the selectable feature" so I am not sure whether the previous post is correct or not as to whether early '08 models have been updated.

I have no idea why people feel the need the turn the system on and off. After I picked up my RG I made sure the EITM was on and haven't touched it. It works great and there is no reason to mess with it. If you have one of the early '08 models where the dealer has to turn it on or off my recommendation is to have the dealer turn it on and leave it on.
