Tail of the Dragon vs. True-Track et. al.

I'll be heading to Deals Gap after Rollin Thunder and I am somewhat concerned about my True-Track. Functionally I'm happy and occasionally I'll drag it in corners. I'm wondering about the other products like Glide-Pro, Sta-Bo and Ride Str8 all of which seem to address a different method. I’ve read various posts and each of the four products seems to have it’s fans. Like I said I like the True-Track. What I don’t like is I cannot drag my boards because it hits first. I’m considering replacing it with one of the other three but I don’t want to lose the control I have. When I was out west I would cruise at a buck ten but I’d still get a wobble in a hard corner above 90. Here in Florida that’s not feasible to ride like that. So all that aside, Has anyone removed their True-Track for one of the others and if so what specific difference if any did you find? I am inclined to save my money and just take it easy but I thought I’d toss this out anyway Thanks for your comments Bob

That's strange that you're hitting the true track first. I find that I hit the floorboard, than floorboard bracket and very rarely I will just touch the true track. I had a alloy art txr before a true track and it was a POS that caused excessive vibration. If you need maximum ground clearance a ride str8 might be the answer.

I am getting ready to purchase the TWR stabalizer. The guy who makes these lives in Canada and seems to have designed a really nice looking bracket that doesn't hang under the chasie and scrape the road while cornering. It also doesn't box in the pan area and prevent it from cooling properly. He powder coats the bracket black so it doesn't stand out as in this picture.

Never heard of, but that is a RideStr8 knock-off. I have a rideStr8 and like it. It will not scrape or drag.

If you are prone to dragging the TrueTrac, you can bank on it at the Dragon. A guy that rides in a way that scrapes a TrueTrac will be hard pressed to "dial it back" while riding a road like that... just say'n... [&:]

i though long and hard about buying the tru track . but decided it was not for me, i road the dragon last year and manage to scrape off about 6 pound of floor boards if you go to www.killboy.com look under touring bikes for 7/9/07 page 12 or 13 you'll see me right at the top of the page on my 03 rg i'm wearing a bright orange tank top. i've heard lots of riders complain of wobble on there loser cruisers but i've never experince it and my riding style is very aggressive. my 02cents dont wast your money.

Agree.The Dragon is nothing to play with on a touring bike. I personally have no desire to ride it again. It is challenging but if you push too hard you will leave your mark possibly forever right there. Be careful.

That block of (I assume Aluminum) is a nicely made piece. I can't figure out what the hell it does without one of you telling me but it looks well made for its intended purpose.[:-]

Rode the Tail on 3/22 and not a problem on a '02 EG. Can't say I was really pushing it but a coulpe of times I knew I was a little out of control. Enough to tell me to respect the rode. Wonder what that piece of aluminum is supposed to do?

I did Deals Gap a few years ago on a stock hight 99 RK. The only solution for not scraping touring bikes is to slow down. Just watch out for the idiots passing you on thoserice rockets. When we reached the end of Deals Gap there was one pinned under a guard rail.

nice to read this post about the loop! i'll be going in june. sounds like what we ride in the so. cal. mountains but for 120 miles....
