Installation is a good DIY project that doesn't require special tools--many excellent threads on the subject, including the cable lash initialization procedure (that should be included in the cruise kit instructions, but isn't--it's in the Service Manual).

Like big_al, I rode interstates with the thumb throttle lock; the HD cruise unit is far better for me and money well spent to add it.

You'll love your cruise controll once you get use to it.It did take me a trip or two to get use to the roll-off feature.Sometimes I would hit a bump in the road and it would cut my CC off.

Not the same, and you don't know what you're missing. IMO it's the best accessory HD makes and well-worth the money. You just think you won't like it.

I've only used mine a couple times, but it was one of the things that sold me on the Ultra.

Just finished installing the cruise control, and it works as it is supposed to. I just got to take a short ride because it's 26 degrees outside, but I can tell I'm going to like it. Should have put one on sooner.

If you have a pre-'08 bike make sure you go through the initialization procedure after the bike is warmed up. Don't know if '08's require it, although I understand these need to go back to the dealer for some sort of computer initialization before it'll work.
mabe the initialization you speek ofis only for the 07 models i bought mine for my 05 put it on in about 1.5 hours& it ws done hasent been to the dealer since i bought itjust plug & play
